Silver Pines Riverside: the way into the Sheriff's Office
For every area in order, start at the Silver Pines walkthrough; for everything else on the game, see the Silver Pines guide hub.
- Sheriff's Office doors: a keypad at Outside the Sheriff's Office. The Gate Key from Dana's Repair Shop opens the way through the junkyard to them, and walkthroughs report that a deputy reads you the code over a truck radio in the Tunnel. The number is on the Silver Pines puzzle solutions page.
- Flashlight: in the workshop behind the Wing Oil office. You need it for the dark Tunnel.
- Bathroom Key: in the Wing Oil Gas Station. It opens the Toilet, where a Hip Bag is waiting.

Getting into the Silver Pines Sheriff's Office
In the game's map data the Sheriff's Office connects to nowhere but Riverside: both its Lobby and its Backlot open onto Outside the Sheriff's Office. Whatever you need inside the station, the trip starts here, and two things stand in the way.
The junkyard gate. The Gate Key is in Dana's Repair Shop. The game describes it as the "Key to the rear exit of the Riverside Junkyard", and it opens the way from the junkyard to Outside the Sheriff's Office.
The keypad. The front doors take a code. The game files give this lock a fixed code, so it is the same in every save; you will find it on the puzzle solutions page under Riverside.
Walkthroughs and launch-day playthroughs all get the code in game the same way. Look inside the police car parked behind the station and note how its radio is set; that radio is too damaged to answer. Then take the flashlight through the dark Tunnel to a truck whose radio still works, set it the same way, and a deputy answers and reads out the code for the front doors. The radio setting is listed with the puzzles without a code.
Walkthroughs also open a padlocked door west of the station that leads back to the Riverside entrance. It saves a long walk once you are going in and out of the Sheriff's Office.
This page stops at the front doors; the rooms, keys and puzzles inside the station are in the Silver Pines Sheriff's Office guide.
Riverside keys and the flashlight
Riverside keys and the flashlight from the game files, build 25806663. | Item | Where it is | What it opens or does | The game's description |
| Gate Key | Dana's Repair Shop | The gate from the junkyard to Outside the Sheriff's Office | Key to the rear exit of the Riverside Junkyard. |
| Bathroom Key | Wing Oil Gas Station | The Toilet, from the yard behind the gas station | Key to restroom at the Wing Oil gas station. It has a hefty wooden block attached to it. |
| Flashlight | The workshop behind the Wing Oil office | Lights dark places such as the Tunnel | A pocket flashlight. Turn on to illuminate your surroundings. Uses batteries. |
Walkthroughs report that the gas station's front door stays shut until you switch on the power at the electrical box in the yard behind it, where you can already see the flashlight through a gap in a shutter. Once you pick it up, the workshop door locks behind you and two enemies come in.
Without a light, the Tunnel stops you with the message "It's too dark to continue", and one launch-day playthrough hits the same message at another dark spot by the gas station. The flashlight runs on batteries, so keep a spare when you can.
What each place in Riverside holds
Items and documents use the game's own English names. Containers are listed by count only, because what a container holds varies. Every point below is also on the Silver Pines interactive map, where you can filter and tick them off.
Riverside Crossroads
The Ship Manual Page document and two containers. Players report a payphone here that saves the game, and the Riverside map on a notice board up the stairs beside it.
Riverside woods
A Bottle, 12ga Buckshot and two containers.
Abandoned House
The Blade, Duct Tape and Spare Parts.
Warehouse
The Repair Kit Note document, Spare Parts, Duct Tape, a Soda, a .44 Magnum Cartridge and two containers. The game describes Spare Parts as parts that "can be COMBINED with other items", and walkthroughs put them together with Duct Tape into a repair kit. Players also find a diamond-shaped crank slot here that they can't use on a first visit; the game's Crank Handle has a diamond-shaped end and lies in Church Hill.
Dana's Repair Shop
The Gate Key, 12ga Buckshot and one container. In the back room: the Hula Figurine memento, Spare Parts and two containers. Guides describe a coffee machine behind a padlocked door in the back room that raises your maximum stamina, and the developers have said the stamina bar shows when you drink coffee. The game describes the Hula Figurine as "Parts still moving, smooth, unhindered."; one launch-day playthrough found that it makes dodging cost less stamina and picked it up on a later visit.
Outside the Sheriff's Office
Magnetic Slugs and one container.
Wing Oil Gas Station and around it
Outside Wing Oil: a Bottle and one container. In the yard behind the gas station: one container. Inside the Wing Oil Gas Station: the Bathroom Key, a Soda and two containers. In the Wing Oil office: a Bottle and one container; players report a phone there that saves the game. In the workshop behind it: the Flashlight. In a spot by the gas station with no map name: Spare Parts.
Toilet
The Hip Bag, which the game says adds two slots to your inventory. Walkthroughs report one stall is occupied and that you cut through a fabric wall with the Boxcutter to reach the bag.
Tunnel and the wind chimes
The Tunnel has no items, but it holds one of Riverside's two wind chimes; the other is in a part of Riverside with no map name, which also has one container. Players knock the chimes down for Memento Vessel Shards, and the game describes the repaired Memento Vessel as something you "Consume to equip additional mementos."
A third Riverside document, Newspaper: Musician Linked to Missing Person, has no spot on the map in the game files.
Getting through Riverside
Player walkthroughs and launch-day playthroughs take much the same path through Riverside:
- Cross the bridge to Riverside Crossroads, save at the payphone and take the Riverside map.
- Search the Warehouse.
- Go on to Dana's Repair Shop for the coffee and the Gate Key; walkthroughs warn that enemies come in once you have the key.
- Open the junkyard gate with the Gate Key and follow the road to the Sheriff's Office front doors, which need the code.
- Check the police car behind the station and note how its radio is set, then open the shortcut door west of the station.
- Power up the Wing Oil Gas Station from the yard behind it, take the Bathroom Key inside, and carry on through the office to the workshop for the Flashlight.
- Deal with the two enemies and open the Toilet for the Hip Bag.
- Light your way through the Tunnel, use the truck radio to reach the deputy, and return to the front doors with the code.
Ways in and out of Riverside
You first reach Riverside through a locked gate on Market Street in Downtown, according to walkthroughs. It opens with the Riverside Bridge Key, which the game describes as the "Key to the Riverside Bridge on Market St." and places in the Cable Car Station. After that, the game's map data connects Riverside to three areas:
- Downtown: Riverside Crossroads to the Market Street alley and to the bridge, Riverside woods to the bridge, and a spot with no map name to Outside the Clinic.
- The sewers: the Tunnel to the Riverside sewer tunnel, plus two spots with no map name, one to the Market Street sewer and one, from beside the gas station, to another sewer room.
- The Sheriff's Office: Outside the Sheriff's Office to its Lobby, through the keypad doors, and to its Backlot.
The map data does not say whether a connection is a door, a ladder or a cutscene, or whether it opens from your side the first time you reach it.
Version notes and limits
The order through Riverside and the radio steps come from walkthroughs written on a pre-release build and from playthroughs posted on launch day. All of them agree, but a patch can change a route or a puzzle, and this page is checked against the game files again after each patch.
Three things are still open: what the Warehouse crank slot opens, where the newspaper is picked up, and whether the Hula Figurine can be reached on your first visit to Dana's Repair Shop.
