Is Silver Pines worth it?
The doubts are just as consistent: previews saw few enemy types and combat that is deliberately slow. The Standard Edition is $24.99 / £21.99 / €24.99, and the developers estimate 12–14 hours for the main story.
This is a roundup of other people's impressions, not an NPC Tips review: we have not scored the game. Full reviews arrive at launch, and this page is updated with them. For everything else on the game, start at the Silver Pines guide hub.

What demo players think
The free Silver Pines demo has 857 Steam reviews across all languages, and 820 of them are positive, which gives it Steam's Overwhelmingly Positive rating. The full game itself has no user reviews before launch.
Demo reviews describe the demo, the game's opening area. The developers have said the monsters there are the least aggressive in the game and that the full release opens into a much larger area with more puzzles, upgrades, side stories and secret paths. A demo score is a good sign for the tone and the systems, not a verdict on the whole game.
The store describes the game as a survival horror metroidvania where you fight or avoid the town's horrors, with scarce resources and limited inventory space. That matches what demo players and previews describe.
What previews praised and doubted
Six outlets wrote about Silver Pines between May and August 2026, all from the demo or a developer presentation.
What they praised
- Art and atmosphere. Every preview singles out the look. IGN called the whole thing stylish, and Bloody Disgusting (June 1) praised its hand-drawn look and layered backgrounds.
- Voice acting. Game8's demo review (May 29) praised the performances, and IGN found them eerie.
- Puzzles and exploration. Bloody Disgusting liked how the puzzles mix logic with surrealism and found the 2D town easy to navigate. Game8 praised the map for marking locked areas and clues.
- Resource tension. IGN (August 19) and Game8 both found that scarce ammo and supplies make every encounter count.
- Deliberate combat. Finger Guns (June 1) liked having to read enemies before striking, and called the systems well taught.
What gave them pause
- Few enemy types. IGN met only two kinds of enemy besides the opening boss, and Bloody Disgusting called enemy design the demo's biggest question mark. IGN noted it played only a short area.
- Slow combat and short stamina. IGN described the combat as intentionally slow and imprecise and the stamina meter as extremely short. If you want fast action, that is a real caution.
- Unproven systems. Bloody Disgusting was not yet sold on the memento system, as the demo had too few to build around.
- Not a pure metroidvania. Game8 noted that progress comes mostly from items and puzzles, which purists might find loose, though the reviewer felt it works.
CGMagazine's first look (August 5) was a developer presentation rather than hands-on play, so it is not counted in the praise or doubts above.
Silver Pines price, length and difficulty
Price. The Standard Edition is $24.99 / £21.99 / €24.99, and a Deluxe Edition adds the artbook and soundtrack. Launch discounts and pre-orders are on the Silver Pines price and editions section.
Length. A developer estimated 12–14 hours for the main story in June 2026, with plenty more after it, and said in August that playtesters reached the first ending around 14 hours. All endings can be reached on a single save, and finishing the game in different ways unlocks game modifiers, according to the developer.
Difficulty. The full release has four options: Relaxed, Tense, Survival Horror and Nightmare, the publisher said on September 30, 2026. A developer added that Nightmare can be picked from the start.
Content. A developer said in October 2026 that there are more than 10 firearms and many melee weapons, some well hidden. New Game Plus was something the developers hoped to add, possibly a few weeks after launch.
Demo saves do not carry over to the full game, the developer said. The Silver Pines demo page covers what the demo includes.
Who Silver Pines is for
Based on the store description, the demo reception and the previews:
- Likely a good fit if you enjoy classic survival horror, scarce ammo, keys and puzzles, backtracking through a town that opens up as you find better tools, and a moody small-town mystery.
- Worth trying the demo first if you prefer fast combat, many enemy types or a strict metroidvania, since those are exactly the points previews questioned.
- Adjustable if you are new to the genre: the full release has four difficulty options, and in June 2026 the developer described Survival Horror as the intended difficulty, close to the demo's.
The free demo is the cheapest way to decide. It covers the opening area, which the developers say has the gentlest enemies.
