What do you put on the Offering Plate?
A Deep Dish Pizza. The plate takes only food, and no other food starts the encounter.
To start the Offering Plate encounter in the Deep Dish Dungeon full game, put a Deep Dish Pizza on the Offering Plate. That frees the Sanctuary Bowl, and moving the bowl all the way to its end point opens the altar.

How we know this. Nobody had published footage of this encounter when we checked, so these rules come from how the full game's files and code set up the Offering Plate, the Sanctuary Bowl, the skeletons and the altar, not from a run we played. Where the plate is and what the encounter looks like are not confirmed yet.

The Offering Plate takes food only, and the one food that does anything is a Deep Dish Pizza. With any other dish on the plate, or nothing at all, the encounter does not start and the Sanctuary Bowl stays put.
You cannot find a Deep Dish Pizza lying around: it is not in any chest and nothing drops it. You make it in two steps:
Bring it to the Offering Plate and put it down. The encounter does not eat the pizza: it only checks that a Deep Dish Pizza is sitting there.
Food can spoil, and a pizza that goes bad on the plate stops counting, which locks the Sanctuary Bowl again, just as taking the pizza off does. Neither costs you progress: the bowl stays where you left it and waves you have already fought do not come back. Put a fresh Deep Dish Pizza down to carry on.
Once the pizza is down, go to the Sanctuary Bowl and interact with it; the prompt says Slide. The bowl moves from its starting point to an end point, and the whole encounter is measured by how far along it is.
You can stop and come back: the bowl keeps its position, including in your save. When you load a save, an encounter you finished stays finished, and one you were partway through picks up from where the bowl is.
How the controls feel while you move it is not confirmed yet. If the bowl will not move, check two things: that a Deep Dish Pizza (not a spoiled one) is on the plate, and that no skeleton from the last wave is still standing.
Six skeletons belong to this encounter, all lying down at the start: two Skeleton Warriors and four Skeleton Archers. The game files give these six placed skeletons more health than the usual values in our enemies table: the Skeleton Warriors here have 175 health, where the table's row shows 135, and the Skeleton Archers here have 120, where the row shows 70.
Each time the Sanctuary Bowl passes a quarter, half and three-quarters of the way, a wave starts:
| Wave | Bowl position | One player near | More than one player near |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wave 1 | A quarter of the way | 2 skeletons | 3 skeletons |
| Wave 2 | Halfway | 3 skeletons | 4 skeletons |
| Wave 3 | Three-quarters of the way | 4 skeletons | 5 skeletons |
The skeletons in each wave are picked at random from the six that are lying down. Ones you knocked down in an earlier wave can be picked again, so you will see some of the same skeletons twice.
When a wave starts, the Sanctuary Bowl locks. It stays locked for at least 7 seconds, and after that until every skeleton that got up is down again. Then you can move it to the next point.
The waves are the encounter's way of waking these skeletons. Whether they can also get up on their own when you walk near them is not confirmed, so be ready for a fight before you put the pizza down.
Move the Sanctuary Bowl all the way to the end and the altar opens. There is no fourth wave: once the bowl reaches the end, the encounter is over.
At that point the Sanctuary Bowl locks for good, and both the bowl and the Offering Plate are removed from where they stood. Defeating skeletons is not what opens the altar; clearing a wave only lets you move the bowl again.
The encounter also includes The Seed of Life, an object you can interact with. What it does is outside this page. What the open altar reveals is something we have not seen yet. If you are working through the dungeon's other puzzles, our Queen's Door guide covers the door that takes three dishes, and our circle door guide covers the door with three turning circles.
Not in the game files. The encounter is run by a mechanism with no health, not by an enemy, and the game's text has no name for a harpy enemy. The fighting here is the skeleton waves.
Harpies do come up in the story. One of the camp diaries mentions looking for a statue of a harpy, because "That's where the Seed will be". What the encounter shows on screen while the waves come is not confirmed yet.
Where the Offering Plate sits in the dungeon is not confirmed yet, and the game's text gives its areas no names we could point you to. None of the twelve stream recordings we checked from the first two days after launch reached it.
You will know it by its name when you look at it: the game calls it the Offering Plate. The Sanctuary Bowl and six skeletons, all lying down at the start, belong to the same encounter.
You could not find the Offering Plate in the free demo, Steam build 23712006. The demo had no Offering Plate, Sanctuary Bowl or The Seed of Life in the dungeon, so this encounter could not be played before the full game.
Still open: where the Offering Plate is, what the encounter looks like, how moving the Sanctuary Bowl is controlled, whether the six skeletons can wake outside the waves, and what the open altar reveals. We will update this page once footage of the encounter confirms these, or if a patch changes the waves, the bowl or the altar.
A Deep Dish Pizza. The plate takes only food, and no other food starts the encounter.
Either there is no good Deep Dish Pizza on the Offering Plate, or a wave has just started. After each wave the bowl stays locked for at least 7 seconds and until every skeleton that got up is down.
Three: at a quarter, half and three-quarters of the bowl's way. With one player near, they bring 2, 3 and 4 skeletons; with more than one, 3, 4 and 5.
No. Clearing a wave only unlocks the Sanctuary Bowl again. The altar opens when the bowl reaches its end point.
No. The bowl locks, but it stays where it was and finished waves do not repeat. Put a fresh Deep Dish Pizza on the plate to carry on.
Not in the game files. The encounter has no enemy with health beyond its six skeletons.
We do not know yet. Nobody had published footage of the open altar when we checked.
No. The Offering Plate and the Sanctuary Bowl are full-game only.
