Nomad Drive Demo Guide

Demo checked October 10, 2026 · Nomad Drive Demo, Steam build 25361176

The Nomad Drive demo is a free, separate listing on Steam for Windows, and you can play it alone or in online co-op. It has no ending: it covers the opening of the game, from building your first RV to cooking, planting and digging up treasure, on an endless desert road. Two things to know before you sink hours into it: demo saves will not carry over to Early Access, and controllers do not work in the demo.

What's in the Nomad Drive demo

The demo is the opening of the game. You start at a house by the road with a camper van that needs work, and a list of objectives walks you through the basics. The demo's files hold 14 objectives:

  • Getting on the road: Gather Your Tools, Build your first RV!, and Power Up and Start the Engine.
  • Keeping it running: Keep It Running, with repair kits and the radiator.
  • Survival: Survival Basics, Cure the Poison and Patch Yourself Up.
  • Life on the road: Cooking Basics, Brew a Fresh Coffee, Green Thumb (planting) and Home on Wheels (furnishing the RV).
  • Treasure and looks: Buried Riches and Find a treasure (digging up chests), and Like New (restoring and spray-painting).

Along the road you stop at nine kinds of places: the Starter House, Gas Station, Radio Station, Watch Tower and Abandoned Factory, plus smaller Wooden Cabins, Car Wrecks, Bus Stops and a Container Area. The demo has two vehicles: the starter van and a bigger C-Class RV you can find.

The developers said on September 19, 2026 that the demo has a single biome, the desert, and that its weather is clear sky and a few cloudy presets; rain and the other dynamic weather come with Early Access. You can play solo or with friends; our guide to solo and co-op explains how sessions work.

How long is the Nomad Drive demo?

There is no set demo length, because the demo has no ending. The world is a procedurally generated road that keeps going, and when you finish the objectives the game simply carries on. What the demo covers is the first stretch of the game: getting your RV running, learning to survive and trying each system once.

Players on the official Discord describe sessions of a few hours, and some kept going all night. Treat that as a sense of scale, not a target. If you want a stopping point, the 14 objectives are the closest thing the demo has to a checklist.

Demo vs Early Access

The demo runs an older version of the game. The developers have announced a long list of changes for the Early Access build, including a two-slot hotbar and backpacks, ladders and roof racks, Blueprint upgrades for vehicles, thirteen kinds of dynamic weather, side roads and biome transitions, more vehicles, spray-paint size controls, a reworked Polaroid camera, gamepad support and settings for how much loot of each kind a new game starts with.

Those are announcements, not features you can try in the demo. Our Nomad Drive roadmap page tracks each one and what is planned after launch.

Demo saves and Early Access

Your demo progress stays in the demo. On September 29, 2026, the producer said that because of the many technical changes made since the demo, save files from the demo will not be transferable to the full game, and recommended that everyone start fresh. The Early Access notes on Steam add that system-heavy updates during Early Access may require save wipes too.

So play the demo for fun and to learn the basics, not to stockpile for launch.

Known issues in the demo

  • Stutter and high GPU load. The developers said in September 2026 that the current demo build was a patch for frame drops and GPU overheating on some setups, and that most remaining performance issues will be solved in the Early Access version. The demo's frame-rate limit starts at Unlimited, which makes powerful PCs work harder than they need to; setting a limit in the settings helps. Our Nomad Drive system requirements page lists the demo's own requirements and the graphics settings.
  • No controller. The demo is keyboard and mouse only, even though the full game's store page lists controller support.
  • Patch Yourself Up never completes. That objective cannot be finished in the demo; our guide explains why Patch Yourself Up won't complete and why it does not matter.

The demo after the Early Access launch

The demo was still on Steam on October 10, 2026. Its future, in the developers' own words:

  • Updates are on hold until launch. On September 17, 2026, the producer said demo updates were paused while the team worked on Early Access.
  • An update is planned after launch. On October 9, 2026, a developer said the team plans to update the demo after the Early Access release. An earlier plan, from September 22, was to update it two or three days before launch; the October 9 answer is the latest word.
  • No word on removal. The developers have not said the demo will be taken down.

If the demo is updated before or after October 20, 2026, the changes will be added here with the date they were checked.

Version notes and limits

Three items are still open: whether the demo's build changes before launch, what the post-launch demo update contains, and whether the official Discord's FAQ channel adds anything about the demo.

Launch day, October 20, 2026, triggers a fresh check of the demo's store page, its build and the developers' announcements.
