What does the crowbar do in Nomad Drive?
It pries open doors and hatches that are stuck. The demo has no stuck doors, so it has no use there yet.
The crowbar in Nomad Drive has one job: prying open doors and hatches that are stuck. In the demo there are no stuck doors at all, so right now the crowbar has nothing to work on. It does not open locked doors or treasure chests, which need keys, and you do not need it to free a stuck vehicle.

| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Use | Pries open doors and hatches that are stuck. Evidence: The demo's door code and in-game text (build 25361176). |
| Stuck doors in the demo | None, and the game never makes a door stuck while you play. Evidence: Every door and hatch in the demo's files, and the code that sets the stuck state (build 25361176). |
| Locked doors and chests | Need a key, not a crowbar. Evidence: The demo's lock code and in-game text (build 25361176). |
| Stuck vehicle | The rescue needs no item. Evidence: The demo's vehicle rescue code (build 25361176). |
| Other functions | None; it is a held tool with no other action. Evidence: The demo's game files (build 25361176). |
| Where it spawns | One loot table at car wrecks and one at radio stations. Evidence: The demo's loot tables (build 25361176). |
Every row describes the demo, Steam build 25361176, read from its files and code on October 9 and 10, 2026. The Early Access build arrives on October 20, 2026 and will be checked on launch day.
Doors and hatches in Nomad Drive can be set as stuck. If you try to open a stuck one empty-handed, the game shows "Stuck — use a crowbar". Hold the crowbar and open the door again, and it pries the door open. That is the crowbar's whole job: it has no other action, it is not a weapon, and nothing else in the game checks whether you are holding one.
The reason it feels useless is that the demo never gives it a door to open. Whether a door is stuck comes from a setting saved with that door, and the game never changes it while you play. We checked every door and hatch in the demo's files, 90 in total, and none of them starts stuck. So in the demo a stuck door never appears, and neither does the "Stuck — use a crowbar" prompt.
Players reached the same conclusion. In the Steam thread "What does the crowbar do?" one answer reads "in the demo it does nothing", and Discord users have asked the same question since July 2026 without finding a use.
The crowbar appears in two of the demo's loot tables, and both always place one:
Each location picks one table for your playthrough, so roughly one car wreck in three and one radio station in three has a crowbar. No other kind of location has one, including the starter house. Radio stations are worth searching anyway: their loot tables can also hold the bigger C-Class RV, as our guide to getting the bigger RV explains.
One item is still open: whether the Early Access build adds stuck doors or gives the crowbar a new job. The developers have not said either way.
Launch day, October 20, 2026, triggers a fresh scan of the Early Access build's doors and the crowbar; if stuck doors appear, this page changes first.
It pries open doors and hatches that are stuck. The demo has no stuck doors, so it has no use there yet.
In one loot table at car wrecks and one at radio stations, so about one in three of each has one.
No. Locked doors and treasure chests only open with the matching key.
No. The vehicle rescue does not need any item.
Because no door in the demo starts stuck and none becomes stuck while you play.
That depends on whether the Early Access build adds stuck doors; we will check on launch day.
