Nomad Drive Multiplayer Guide

Co-op facts checked October 9, 2026 · Pre-launch status · Demo and developer statements

Nomad Drive multiplayer is online co-op for up to four players, and the whole game can also be played solo. The Steam store page lists Single-player and Online Co-op and pitches the game as "solo or in 1–4 player co-op", and the producer said in the official Nomad Drive Discord that one to four players start in a shared RV.

Nomad Drive multiplayer: online co-op for 1–4 players

For what the game is and every guide we publish, start at the Nomad Drive guide hub.

  • Players at once: up to four.
  • Solo: yes; a single-player mode was added to the demo on June 29, 2026.
  • How you join: the host starts a session and shares a join code with friends, a developer said in June 2026.
  • Connection: peer-to-peer through Epic Online Services, the producer said in September 2026, so players far apart can run into connection issues.
  • Crossplay and dedicated servers: nothing announced; see below.

How to host a session and join a friend

One player hosts and the others join with a code. When a player asked in the official Nomad Drive Discord on June 17, 2026 how friends could get into a game, a developer answered that the host of the game has to share the join code with the other players for them to join. The code is shown to the host inside the game; your friends enter it on their side to connect to your session. The developers have not published the code's length or format, so this page does not state one.

Players have also described two other ways in: inviting friends through Steam, and public lobbies that anyone can join. Both come from player videos and Discord posts about the demo rather than from the developers, so treat them as player reports until the Early Access build confirms them. If a friend asks for "one of them friend codes", as one player did on Discord on October 1, 2026, the answer is the join code the host sees.

The June 29, 2026 demo update added a session information panel to the pause menu, according to the official Steam announcement, so the host can check who is connected without leaving the game.

Solo play and the shared RV start

Yes, you can play Nomad Drive alone. The Steam store page lists Single-player alongside Online Co-op, and the June 29, 2026 demo update added a dedicated single-player mode so that a solo run no longer goes through the multiplayer lobby. The producer said as far back as October 2024 that the game would be playable both single-player and in co-op.

In co-op, one to four players begin in the same RV. The producer explained on Discord on October 1, 2025 that "1–4 players start in a shared RV and can later build their own vehicles", so a group can split up once they find and repair more vehicles. The Early Access Q&A on the Steam page confirms that online co-op is implemented at launch; whether the player count or the start changes in the Early Access build will be checked on launch day.

Can't connect to the host? What to try

Connection complaints are the most common Nomad Drive multiplayer topic on the Steam forums, in several languages, and most of those threads have no answer. What follows is split into what the developers have said and what other players have reported, because the two are not the same kind of evidence.

What the developers said. On September 26, 2026, in the official Nomad Drive Discord, the producer answered a player who could not connect to a friend:

  • The game does not use Steam networking; it uses Epic Online Services.
  • The connection is peer-to-peer, so "people who are geographically far apart can sometimes run into connection issues".
  • For a demo install that misbehaves, the producer gave a reset: open the Windows terminal and run Remove-Item -Path "HKCU:\Software\Indie Devil\Nomad Drive Demo" -Recurse. This clears the demo's registry settings, and the producer added that some basic language preferences and in-game settings may be reset. It is a demo command; the Early Access build's key will differ.

What players reported. A community member summarised the usual advice on Discord on October 8, 2026: because the connection is peer-to-peer, a failed join usually comes down to the link between you and the host, so try a different player as host, turn off any VPN, and try a public lobby if a code will not connect. The same post said the game uses port 7777 by default; no developer has confirmed a port and we have not verified it, so treat router changes as a last resort you make at your own judgement.

Two reports with no answer yet. A Steam forum post on October 3, 2026 described the multiplayer and join buttons being greyed out from the single-player screens, with reinstalling and firewall checks not helping, and another on October 8 reported rooms failing to join. Neither has a developer reply, as you can see in the Steam discussion about multiplayer being unavailable.

If you are on the demo, remember it is an older build: the developers said in September 2026 that demo updates were on hold while they finished the Early Access version, and several lobby and connection fixes shipped in June. The Early Access build is the one to test on October 20.

Late joining, saves and voice chat

Friends can join a session that is already running. The June 29, 2026 demo update added late-joiner syncing, according to the Steam announcement: a player who joins later sees placed objects, dug-up treasure and seat positions as they are, and the lobby and connection errors now show a message instead of failing silently. Earlier June updates fixed a crash when a player was kicked, added a prompt when a player disconnects, and fixed late joiners being unable to start the engine.

Which player's save the world belongs to, and whether friends can rejoin that save later without the original host, is not documented. The developers have not said, and this page will not guess; it is listed under version notes until an answer appears.

Voice chat is built in. The June 29 update reworked it and added a device selector, so you can pick your microphone and speakers in the audio settings instead of relying on the system default.

Crossplay, PS5 and dedicated servers

Crossplay: not announced. The Steam page lists no cross-platform feature, and the PS5 store page says only "4 online players". Whether a PS5 player will be able to join a Steam host is unknown; the PS5 version has no release date, as the Nomad Drive release date page explains.

Dedicated servers: no official word. Server hosting companies advertise Nomad Drive servers for rent, but the developers have not announced dedicated servers, and their September 2026 description of the connection as peer-to-peer through Epic Online Services is the only statement on how sessions run. Until the developers say otherwise, plan on one player hosting.

Demo versus Early Access

Everything above that cites the demo describes the demo as updated through June 29, 2026: single-player mode, late-joiner syncing, reworked voice chat, clearer lobby errors and the pause-menu session panel all arrived in that update, building on the demo's 1.3 version. The Early Access build on October 20 is a newer version; the developers' Steam Q&A says online co-op is implemented in it, and they have said that performance and lag problems will be addressed at the Early Access release.

What else the Early Access build adds, from the two-slot hotbar and backpacks to new weather and vehicles, is tracked on the Nomad Drive roadmap page. The player count and the join flow on this page will be rechecked against the Early Access build on launch day.

Version notes and limits

Five items are still open: the port and transport the game uses, the join code's format, which player owns a session's save and whether friends can rejoin it, crossplay, and whether the Early Access build changes the join flow.

Launch day, October 20, 2026, triggers a check of the Early Access build's multiplayer menus; any change to the player count, joining or late joining is added with the date it was checked.

Nomad Drive multiplayer FAQ

Is Nomad Drive multiplayer?

Yes. It is online co-op for up to four players, listed on the Steam store page and confirmed by the producer on Discord.

How many people can play Nomad Drive together?

Up to four at once, starting in a shared RV. The PS5 store page also lists 4 online players.

Can you play Nomad Drive solo?

Yes. The store page lists Single-player, and the demo gained a dedicated single-player mode on June 29, 2026.

How do I join my friend's game?

The host starts a session and shares the join code shown in the game; you enter it on your side. Players also report Steam invites and public lobbies in the demo.

Why can't I connect to the host?

The producer said the connection is peer-to-peer through Epic Online Services and that distance can cause problems. Players report trying a different host, turning off a VPN or using a public lobby; none of those is an official fix.

Can I join a game that has already started?

Yes. Since the June 29, 2026 demo update, late joiners see placed objects, dug-up treasure and seats as they are.

Is there crossplay with PS5?

Not announced. The PS5 version has no release date, and neither store page mentions cross-platform play.

Are there dedicated servers?

The developers have not announced any. They describe the connection as peer-to-peer, so one player hosts.

Whose save is the co-op world?

Not documented. The developers have not said whether the save belongs to the host or whether friends can rejoin it later.
