How long will Nomad Drive be in Early Access?
The developers are targeting a full release within 6 to 12 months of the October 20, 2026 launch, and say the timeline may shift with feedback.
Nomad Drive updates follow a plan the developers have stated in three places: the Steam page's Early Access Q&A, their Steam announcements and their posts in the official Nomad Drive Discord. The game enters Early Access on October 20, 2026, the developers are targeting a full 1.0 release within 6 to 12 months of that, and they have said that everything shown in their sneak peeks since July will be in the Early Access build.
The exact date, the price and the platforms are on the Nomad Drive release date page; for what the game is, start at the Nomad Drive guide hub.

Launch content rows are developer announcements and are rechecked against the Early Access build on launch day.
Between July 30 and October 1, 2026, the developers previewed the Early Access build in the #sneak-peeks channel of the official Nomad Drive Discord and answered follow-up questions in #chat. On September 20 the producer confirmed that "everything we've announced through the sneak peeks will be available in the Early Access release in October". The table lists each announced feature; none has been checked in a build yet.

Two of these replace demo behaviour that players asked about most. The hotbar answers the "can only hold one item" complaint: the developers acknowledged it on the Steam forums on June 20, 2026 and said they were bringing a hotbar without a large multi-slot inventory, and the Early Access answer is the two-slot hotbar plus backpacks. The weather list is bigger than the demo's: the producer said on September 19 that the demo is desert only with clear and cloudy presets and no rain, even though the demo's game files (Steam build 25361176) contain nine weather presets, so having a preset in the files is not the same as the demo using it. In the same vein, the demo's single-player mode and reworked voice chat arrived in the June 29 demo update; how co-op works is on the Nomad Drive multiplayer page.
The Early Access Q&A on the Steam store page, checked October 9, 2026, is the only official statement of where the game is going after launch. The developers write that the 1.0 version will be "a more expansive and polished experience" and that "our roadmap includes new, distinct biomes to explore, a much wider array of RV customization parts, and deeper, more engaging survival and crafting systems". During Early Access, they say, the focus is performance optimisation, bug fixing and adding content based on player feedback.
The developers have not said how many biomes 1.0 will have. A July 2025 dev diary on Steam called the desert "the first of four biomes", and the Early Access sneak peeks mention biome transitions, but the four-biome plan has not been restated for Early Access or 1.0, so this page does not count on it. The timeline is the one from the Q&A: a full release targeted within 6 to 12 months, which the developers say may shift with community feedback.
The most-requested features on the Steam forums and in the Discord each have a developer answer, except two.
| Request | Status | Developer response | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Female character option | Planned after launch | "won't make it into early access, but it is planned for a post-release update" (Discord, #chat) | September 24, 2026 |
| Zombies, infected or other enemies | Not planned | No zombies or infected enemies; radioactive places and infected environments instead (Discord, | January 3, 2025 |
| Controller support | Announced for Early Access | Gamepad support available at the Early Access launch (Discord, | September 19, 2026 |
| Radio to play music in the RV | Announced for Early Access | A radio feature so you can listen to songs, with the soundtrack's cassettes (Discord, | June 24 and September 19, 2026 |
| A dynamic threat that pushes you forward | Requested, no developer response | A Steam forum suggestion with 15 replies and no developer reply | October 8, 2026 |
| Trailers to tow | Requested, no developer response | Player requests on Discord without a developer reply | 2026 |
The female character thread is the busiest on the Steam forums, with 45 replies; the developer's answer came on Discord rather than in that thread, and you can read the Steam discussion asking for a female character for the player side. The enemies answer is from January 2025, before the demo existed; the demo's game files contain no enemy class, and nothing since has changed the plan.
Save wipes. The Early Access Q&A says that "system-heavy updates may require save file wipes". No wipe is scheduled; the developers are warning that some updates could need one. On September 19 the producer added that a warning pop-up is coming for the delete-save button, after players lost saves to it in the demo.
Demo saves. They stay in the demo. On September 29, 2026, the producer said save files from the demo will not be transferable to the full game and recommended starting fresh at launch.
The demo's future. The demo has been on an older build since September: on September 14 the producer called the current demo "an older and somewhat buggy version of the game", and on September 17 said demo updates were on hold while the team worked on the Early Access version. On October 9 a developer said the team plans to update the demo after the Early Access release; no date was given, and whether the demo stays up is covered on the release date page.
Player feedback is the stated input. The Early Access Q&A commits the developers to watching the Steam discussion forums and the Discord for feedback, bug reports and ideas, and on June 20, 2026 they posted on the Steam forums that they were organising all demo feedback into a "priority roadmap" for bug fixes and features. You can read that post in the developers' thank-you thread on Steam.
On September 20 the producer described the method for Early Access: developing the game alongside the community and shaping the roadmap from feedback as the game moves toward 1.0. On September 26 he said the team plans to run polls on many topics once Early Access begins, so expect votes in the Discord on what comes next.
The most recent Steam announcement is the Early Access Release Date Update of September 16, 2026: the launch moved from September to the first half of October for optimisation and polish, with the exact day to follow. The Steam page now shows October 20. After launch, this section becomes a short summary of each Early Access update with a link to the full notes on Steam.
Four items are still open: which weather presets the demo enables, the Early Access build's actual launch content against the announced list, how many biomes Early Access ships with, and when the demo will be updated.
Launch day, October 20, 2026, triggers a check of the Early Access announcement and build against the launch table; rows that match move to "In Early Access", and anything missing or new is added with the date it was checked.
The developers are targeting a full release within 6 to 12 months of the October 20, 2026 launch, and say the timeline may shift with feedback.
New distinct biomes, a much wider array of RV customization parts, and deeper survival and crafting systems, according to the Early Access Q&A.
A two-slot hotbar with backpacks, ladders and roof racks, Blueprints, 13 weather types, side roads and biome transitions, more vehicles, a 15-track soundtrack, intoxication and cigarettes, loot and difficulty settings, spray-paint controls and a camera rework, all announced by the developers for the launch.
They may. The Early Access Q&A says system-heavy updates may require save wipes; none is scheduled.
No. The producer said on September 29, 2026 that demo saves are not transferable to the full game.
Not in Early Access. The developers said on September 24, 2026 that it is planned for a post-release update.
No. The developers said in January 2025 that zombies and infected enemies are not planned; radioactive places are the plan instead.
Gamepad support is announced for the Early Access launch, the producer said on September 19, 2026.
Demo updates were on hold as of September 17, 2026. A developer said on October 9 that the team plans to update the demo after the Early Access release.
From player feedback on the Steam forums and in the Discord, organised into a priority roadmap, with community polls planned once Early Access begins.
