Is Loftia multiplayer?
Yes. Loftia is an MMO, so you share the world with other players on your server and can play with as many friends as you like. You can also play solo.
Loftia multiplayer works like any MMO: you need an internet connection to play on every platform, and there is no offline mode. You do not have to play with anyone, though. The official FAQ says you can play solo, that playing alone does not block your progress, and that almost all content is open to solo players.

Solo: yes. The official Loftia FAQ says Loftia "can be enjoyed both solo, and together with others", that playing alone will not block your progress, and that you can still enjoy almost all of the content everyone else does. Some activities are built for groups, such as adventures and World Projects, but adventures also let you queue on your own and be matched with other players.
Offline: no. Loftia is an MMO, and the FAQ says you need to be online to play it on every platform. There is no offline mode and no single-player version.
Private servers: no. Loftia runs on servers hosted by the developers, and there is no official way to run your own as of October 23, 2026. We found no official mention of third-party server hosting either. The developers' game preservation plan, published in July 2025, describes a "Loftia Ark" package with the server software and setup scripts that they intend to release only if the studio ever shuts down, so the community could host the game then. It is a plan for the future, not something you can use now.
Playing with friends. You can play with as many friends as you like. The only condition is that you need to be on the same server; see how servers work.
Cross-play. Not promised yet. The developers say they are still testing whether they can support it, and that you need to buy the game separately on each platform; our Loftia platforms section has the details. When Loftia comes to Switch in 2027, online play there will also need a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
The FAQ explains the basic rule: Loftia has servers so that many players can be in the world at the same time, only players on the same server can play together, and you are not locked to any server, so you can join friends whenever you like.
Picking a region. The login screen has a Select Region button and shows your current region. In the game settings, under Gameplay, a Preferred Region option sets the region you want; the game's own description says that changes apply "the next time you login or travel to a different map".
Where the servers were during the demo. On October 20, 2026, a developer listed the demo's server locations in the official Loftia Discord: Ashburn (east coast US), Sydney (Australia), Frankfurt (Europe) and Hong Kong (Asia). The developers have not published an Early Access region list, so treat these four as the demo setup; we will update this section once Early Access opens.
How many players share a map. In September 2026, before the demo, a developer said in the official Discord that most maps you are on have about 80 other players. Your home sits in a shared neighborhood with other players' homes, as the developers described the demo.
Changing servers. Because you are not locked to a server, the simplest way to reach friends is through the Friends List rather than by changing region (next section).
Join a friend's server. The game's own tip says: "You can hop to a friend through the Friends List to join them on the same server." If the server is full, the game shows "Join Failed - Server is Full!".
Add friends and form a group. When you meet another player, you can send them a friend request or a private message, or invite them to a group, which the game says "makes it easier to play together". The Friends and Groups screens are in the Menu Hub.
Share a neighborhood. When you form a group, the game sets up a neighborhood for it and asks: "A neighborhood has been formed for your group. Would you like to go there now?" If you choose to stay, your next trip home takes you to the group's neighborhood. During the closed beta in May 2026, a developer said that in Early Access, players in the same party are placed together in one neighborhood.
Adventures: up to 4 players. Ryder's adventures support up to 4 players, and you can also queue solo to be matched with other adventurers. During the demo, the developers said the very first adventure is always played solo, to show you how adventures work, and that you can group up with friends after that.
Expect some rough edges. In the demo, the game warned that Friends and Groups were "features under construction": friends might not show as online or in search, names could be missing from lists, and requests might fail to accept. Its advice was to restart the game. The demo patches also fixed group travel to a shared neighborhood that kept failing or sending players back to the login screen.
Social minigames and other group activities are part of what the developers list for Early Access; see what Loftia Early Access adds.
Start with the message the game shows. These are the connection messages in the demo's English text, quoted word for word, with what to do about each. The demo was on Steam only, so the Steam messages below may read differently in the Epic Games Store version.
| Message in the game | What to do |
|---|---|
| "Loftia couldn't reach the Steam servers. Please make sure Steam is online (not in Offline Mode), then restart Steam and launch Loftia again." | Turn off Steam's Offline Mode, restart Steam, then launch Loftia again. |
| "Loftia couldn't connect to Steam. Please make sure Steam is running and up to date, then launch Loftia from your Steam library." | Open Steam first, then start Loftia from your Steam library. |
| "Loftia couldn't connect to Steam. Please launch Loftia from your Steam library. If that doesn't help, your Steam client may be out of date…" | Update Steam (Steam > Check for Steam Client Updates), restart Steam and launch again. |
| "Servers are not online" | The servers are down, for example during maintenance. Wait and check the official announcements. |
| "Couldn't find a world to join. Please try again." | Try again; the game could not find a server for you. |
| "Couldn't connect to the world. Please try again." | Try again; the trip to a new area failed. |
| "Timed out waiting for a new world. Returning to login." | Log back in. If it keeps happening, check whether the game is installed on an external drive (below). |
| "Join Failed - Server is Full!" | Your friend's server is full. Try again later or meet on another server. |
Maintenance downtime. During the demo, the developers took the servers down for about 30 minutes for each patch, on October 20 and October 22, 2026, and announced it in the official Loftia Discord beforehand. The second patch also made login retry temporary connection failures automatically instead of showing an error straight away, and added clearer messages when Steam is offline, is not running or needs an update.
Known issues from the demo. The official news page's known-issues list (updated October 23, 2026) included three that look like connection problems:
If your character is stuck, open the menu and choose Teleport To Start, as the game's own tip suggests. During the demo, a developer also said that only a crash of the server itself loses progress, and then at most about five minutes of it.
Looking for the Loftia login page for your account? That is the official account login page on the Loftia website, where you manage your Loftia account and demo rewards. It is separate from starting the game, which in the demo signed you in through Steam.
There are three official routes, depending on the problem:
Before you report something, check the known-issues list on the official news page; the developers keep it updated with problems they are already working on.
Reporting a player is different. The /report command in chat (/report followed by the character name and a description) reports another player for behavior. It is not the place for bugs.
Early Access opens on November 3, 2026 at 1 p.m. EST (18:00 UTC); our Loftia release date page has the time in other time zones. The demo came down on October 26, so the game cannot be played until then.
For server news on launch day, check the official Loftia Discord, the official announcements on Steam and the official news page; during the demo, the developers announced each patch downtime in the Discord before it started. We update this section through launch day with what they have posted, each update with the time it was checked.
Four things are still open before launch: the Early Access region list, whether there will be a login queue, whether Steam and Epic players share servers, and how the servers hold up on launch day.
Early Access opening on November 3, 2026 triggers a recheck of the servers, regions and connection sections, and the in-game messages are checked against the Early Access build in the days after launch. Anything that changes is updated with the date it was checked.

No. Loftia runs on the developers' servers, and there is no official way to host your own as of October 23, 2026. The developers plan a self-hostable release only if the studio ever shuts down.
You pick a region on the login screen. During the demo, a developer listed Ashburn (US east coast), Sydney, Frankfurt and Hong Kong; the Early Access list has not been published.
Be on the same server: jump to a friend from your Friends List, then invite them to a group. A group gets its own neighborhood, and adventures take up to 4 players.
Up to 4. You can also queue solo to be matched with other players. In the demo, the first adventure was always solo.
Check the message on screen. Most demo errors pointed to Steam being offline, not running or out of date, or to the servers being down for maintenance; the connection errors table lists each message.
Check the official Loftia Discord announcements, the Steam announcements or the official news page. During the demo, patches took the servers down for about 30 minutes each.
Use the in-game feedback form, the official bug report page (it needs a Loftia account login), or email support@loftia.gg for account and in-game problems.
Not yet promised. The developers say they are aiming for it and still testing, and that you need to buy the game on each platform.
