Probably Stolen Guns: Who Buys Them

Checked October 29, 2026 · Probably Stolen, Steam build 26284217

Guns are bought by customers who place a Custom Gun Order: they come to your counter asking for a gun that fits a brief, such as something accurate, something with serious firepower or something suppressed. Other customers come to sell you guns. To bring more gun buyers in, put a Weapon Permit in your display case; you have to keep your Security reputation up or the permit is revoked.

Who buys guns: custom gun orders

The main gun buyer is a customer with a custom order. They open with lines like "Need a custom firearm, can you help?" or "Want something custom-built," and the trade screen becomes a Custom Gun Order. Each order comes with a brief, for example:

  • "Need something accurate."
  • "Need something with serious firepower."
  • "Need something big and intimidating."
  • "Got something accurate? Maybe a suppressed one?"
  • "I need something stylish."
  • "I want something that handles well, steady and easy in the hand."
  • "Nothing fancy. A gun that shoots straight and does not jam."
  • "Give me your best…", where the customer offers to pay what it is worth "and half again on top".

Buyers may follow up asking for ammunition for the gun, a backup melee weapon for close quarters, or an explosive, with more money to spend. Some don't want a new gun at all: "Can you work on my…? I want it to do better. I pay for the parts you put on it."

The game rates each gun on Firepower, Style, Reliability, Recoil Control, Ergonomics, Accuracy, Size, Suppressed and Caliber, and the briefs ask for those qualities in plain words.

Drawing buyers in. A Weapon Permit placed in the display case "increases the chance of gun buying customers to visit". The display case's other uses are in our display case guide.

Class II Weapon Permit Mid level contraband weapons30
Class III Weapon Permit High level contraband weapons60

How to get one. The Gunsmith start begins with a Class I Weapon Permit. Otherwise Joe Wild can negotiate one for you: Weapon Permit I (usually reserved for Lower Level merchants), II (Upper Level merchants) and III (Station Security quartermasters). Each is only delivered once your Security reputation reaches a set level. Prices and the reputation needed are on our Joe Wild network table.

Why it gets revoked. Drop below the permit's reputation line and you lose it; Security can also visit to tell you "your permit is hereby revoked" in light of your recent activities. Trafficking (Weapons) is one of the crimes on your Security record, so selling guns still carries risk; see contraband in our security guide.

Firearm Neon Signs work the other way round: in the display case they attract customers who want to sell you firearms (Heavy Firearm for the bigger ones).

Where to get guns to sell

  • The Gunsmith start: a Class I Weapon Permit, a stock of firearms and gun mods, and a stock of ammunition. Its full description is on our starting scenarios table.
  • Gun sellers: customers who walk in with "You buy guns? Got a good one here." or "Clearing out gear, got mods and mags." A gunsmith may also visit with "Hello, I got some weapons."
  • Retired Gunsmith: this Joe Wild favor gives you a Gunsmith Starter Kit straight away; the retired gunsmith then visits the next day and once a week after that, selling gun mods and ammo, and it unlocks more advanced gunsmith content.

Guns and attachments have their own home: the Gunsmith Storage Bay stores firearms and modifications. See storage bays.

What the 3D printer can make

The 3D printer takes a 3D Printer Chip and 3D Printing Filament, and each chip prints one thing. The chips in the game print:

  • Guns and gun parts: the .22 Pistol chip (also a double-yield version), the Nestfire Compact Frame and Ironcraft 10 Frame chips, and a Gun Part chip.
  • Sights and a silencer: RDS, Makeshift RDS, Laser Sight, Toy Laser Pointer and Silencer.
  • Magazines and parts: .22, Extended .22 and High Capacity .22; 10MM, Extended 10MM and High Capacity 10MM; Improved Internal Springs.
  • Melee weapons: Box Cutter, Kitchen Knife, Hatchet, Meat Cleaver, Combat Knife and Combat Machete.
  • Other: Small Plastic Bottle.

The printer also takes modules. The Metal Printer Module lets it use metal printer chips; the Computer Numerical Control Module, together with metal printing, lets it use the gun frame and gun part chips; the Melee Batch Module adds one more weapon to every melee print. Each chip prints a set number of items; the game shows the count on the chip.

Version notes and limits

This page names every gun and attachment but doesn't give gun stat values, attachment bonuses or how many items a printer chip makes. We also haven't confirmed which customers place gun orders or how often, or exactly which attachments fit which gun. We will update this page if a patch changes guns or permits.
