Probably Stolen System Requirements

Store pages and demo checked October 19, 2026 · Probably Stolen Demo, Steam build 25382790

The Probably Stolen system requirements are low: a 64-bit Windows 10 PC with an Intel Core i3 or equivalent, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 650 Ti-class graphics card, DirectX 10 and 1 GB of free space. Steam lists Windows only. Valve rates the game Playable on Steam Deck, and the Steam page lists no controller support.

Probably Stolen system requirements: the short answer

For what the game is and every guide we publish, start at the Probably Stolen guide hub.

  • Recommended specs: Steam lists none beyond a 64-bit processor and operating system.
  • The free demo: same minimum as the full game.
  • Steam Deck: Playable, with some functions needing the touchscreen or a community controller layout.
  • Controllers: the store lists no controller support; the game is built around the mouse.
  • Mac and Linux: no version for either; Linux players report that Proton works.
  • Ultrawide: the game is drawn for 16:9, so wider screens get a window or black bars.

Probably Stolen PC specs: minimum and recommended

These are the requirements on the Probably Stolen Steam page, copied line by line. Steam gives a minimum only: the recommended column repeats that you need a 64-bit processor and operating system and adds no hardware.

The demo asks for the same. The Probably Stolen Demo Steam page lists the same minimum and adds one note about screens.

Will it run on a low-end PC or laptop? The game is 2D pixel art that needs 1 GB of space, and every line asks for modest hardware. The lines most likely to rule out an older machine are the 8 GB of RAM and the 64-bit Windows 10. The simplest test is the free demo, which asks for the same hardware; our release date page explains what the demo includes and how long it stays up.

Playing Probably Stolen on Steam Deck

Valve rates Probably Stolen Playable on Steam Deck: "This game is functional on Steam Deck, but might require extra effort to interact with or configure." Valve's test notes say that with the default controller layout some functions need the touchscreen, the virtual keyboard or a community controller configuration, that the game sometimes shows mouse, keyboard or other controller icons, and that some in-game text is small and may be hard to read. The default graphics settings run well.

Valve tested a build from September 11, 2026, before the release build, and can retest. Other devices running SteamOS get a Compatible rating with the same note about the default controller layout. The free demo has no Deck rating of its own.

How players set it up. Players report that the game is easiest on Deck when you treat it as a mouse game. One Playtest player switched to Steam's keyboard (WASD) and mouse template, put the mouse on the right trackpad and set a trackpad click as the left mouse button, which covered most of the game; shortcuts that need a key combination went on spare buttons. A demo player in October found only the touchscreen working before changing the layout. A community layout or your own trackpad setup is the practical route.

Controller support and keyboard controls

The Steam store page lists no controller support, neither full nor partial, and lists Mouse Only Option instead: the interface is built to be played with a mouse. The demo matches that. Its Options menu has gameplay, audio, display and dialogue settings and no controller or key-remapping setting, and nothing in the demo's input code reads a controller directly.

Players report the same in practice: a player trying an Xbox Series X controller in the demo in September 2026 could not get past the start screens with it.

That is not the same as "controllers can never work". Steam can map a controller to mouse and keyboard outside the game, which is what Steam Deck players do with a community layout.

Changing keys. The demo's Options have no key-binding screen, and players asking on the Steam forum in October 2026 found none. Whether the full game adds one is part of the launch check below.

Can you play Probably Stolen on Mac or Linux?

Steam lists Windows only, with no macOS or Linux version, and no Mac version is announced as of October 19, 2026. Consoles and phones are covered on our page on platforms and the Steam Deck rating.

Linux. Players report that the game runs through Proton, Steam's built-in compatibility layer, which you turn on in the game's Steam compatibility settings. One demo player on Linux Mint found that fullscreen got stuck after switching windows; forcing a Proton GE version and choosing Borderless Fullscreen in the game fixed it for them. Valve's Compatible rating for SteamOS devices points the same way, though it covers Valve's own system rather than every Linux desktop.

Mac. Mac players have asked for a version on Reddit, Steam and Discord. A player on the official Discord shared an unofficial way to run the Playtest on a Mac through a Windows compatibility wrapper, with no support from the developers. We don't give the steps: it is a workaround for an unsupported setup and can break with any update.

Display modes, ultrawide monitors and frame rate

Display settings. In the demo, Options → Display has a Resolution list and a Fullscreen list with three modes: Fullscreen, Borderless Fullscreen and Windowed.

Ultrawide and other wide screens. The game is drawn for 16:9. The demo's Steam page says it "can play fine on 21:9 and 32:9 monitors, but will run in a window". If you pick fullscreen on a monitor that is not 16:9, the demo's Options show this notice: "Your Monitor's Resolution Is Not Fully Supported In Fullscreen Mode. The game will be displayed with black bar while in fullscreen mode." The developer's patch notes of August 2026 added fullscreen with black bars for these monitors during the Playtest, then let you dock parts of the interface onto the bars. Either way the picture is not stretched to fill a wide screen.

Frame rate. According to the developer's patch notes of August 2026, the game caps itself at 60 FPS to keep the load down on fast hardware, and caps at 10 FPS while minimized. The demo's Options → Gameplay has an FPS Cap While Minimized switch to turn off the minimized cap.

Text size. The full game's Steam page lists Adjustable Text Size; the demo's page does not, and the demo's Options have no text-size setting. Valve's Deck notes also mention small text. If small text is a problem for you, check the full game's Options at launch.

Version notes and limits

The full game launches on October 28, 2026, and the store pages can change before or on that day. On October 28 we recheck the requirements, the listed platforms, the controller and text-size categories and the Steam Deck rating, and any change is added with the date it was checked. A new demo build triggers a recheck of the demo's store page and its Options menu.

The developers have said nothing public about Steam Deck, controllers, Mac or Linux beyond what the store pages show, so the setups on this page come from players and from the demo's own settings.
